When you trade on the Clarity platform now, you trade a Contract with Investec. This contract (known as a Contract For Difference), enables you to receive the economic returns of a share, and the ability for you to own the economic interest in a portion of a share. CFDs give you access to the performance of that share – including benefitting from any gains or cash flows (for instance, dividends). While having exposure to the ups and downs in the share, you don’t own the share and don’t have voting rights. CFDs also enables you to buy portions of a share, which is not possible if you own the share in your own name. CFDs are often associated with higher risk/speculation. On Clarity, you fully fund your CFD, so your economic exposure is the same as owning the share and thus the risk is similar if you are comfortable to contract with Investec.

Clarity has transparent and competitive pricing with zero account fees, no transaction fees and no broker’s commission. Every time you trade, our fee is automatically priced into the spread (up to 0.2%). Spread is the difference between the sell and buy price, where the transaction is actually executed. If you trade on margin, we also have margin rates (for local ZAR Margin trading at +2% long and -1.5% short; and internationally at +2% long or -2% short). Yes. Because you invest in underlying assets using CFDs, you can buy portions of shares. For example, if a share is priced at R100 you can invest R50 – that will give you half a share, or 50%. These calculations are done automatically and you can simply transact using the amount you have available, or select the number of complete shares you require.

We have over 600 shares and funds available on the platform with more being added regularly. To find a share, you can search for it from your dashboard or app. Should an instrument that you are interested in not be available, you can request for it to be added via our chat fuction.

Yes. Clarity is a trading and investing platform and is built to execute trades. However, we have instant currency conversion between ZAR and USD, and investors can earn competitive rates on the cash balances in their overnight savings accounts in both currencies. Money can be saved in USD or Rands.
